A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/16 inches (2.70 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold five-pointed star upon the apex of a scarlet chevron all above a gold Phoenix bird rising out of gold and scarlet flames and with upraised wings in front of the chevron and touching the points at either side of the star; draped from the ends of the chevron a curved blue scroll bearing in gold letters the inscription WELL BE THERE.
Buff (gold) and scarlet are the colors used for Support. The chevron, suggestive of a rooftree or gable, is used to symbolize the support function and the star at top represents command and control. The mythological Phoenix bird is the namesake of the city of Phoenix, largest city and capital of Arizona, where the unit is located.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 August 1971.
